3. Clients' Instructions

All bets for day-to-day racing will be executed at starting price unless the client specifies otherwise. In any instance where there is no starting price returned the bet becomes void. When a client times a horse for a race in which it is not engaged, the bet will stand for the race in which the horse actually runs, If, however, the horse is double engaged, the bet stands for the race timed by the client. When a race is named first, second or last race, this is taken as placed and timed in the day's racing programme as shown in the 'Racing Post'. We cannot undertake to notify clients at the time of acceptance if instructions do not comply with our rules.

6. Dead Heats

7. Late Withdrawals - Rule 4

Where a horse is withdrawn before coming 'Under Orders, or is deemed to be a non-runner by the starter due to taking no part in the race, bets will be settled in accordance with Tattersalls Rule 4 where applicable. In the event of a new market being formed due to a horse being withdrawn then only bets laid at 'Show' prices prior to the new market show will be subject to a Rule 4 deduction.
The following scale of deductions will apply depending upon price of non-runner at the time of withdrawal:
  Current Odds Deduction

(b) 2/5 to 1/3 70p in the £

8. Horserace Favourites

  1. The First Favourite is the horse given in the S.P returns at the shortest price; where there are two horses returned at the shortest price they are joint First and Second Favourites. First and Second Favourites only are accepted Win only. Un-named Third Favourites and Each-Way bets are not accepted where taken in error Third Favourite bets and the place part of Each-Way bets will be void.
  2. Where a horse is withdrawn not under orders but is still returned Favourite then that Favourite is treated as a non-runner.

Go To Top

9. Forecasts

Forecasts are accepted in races of 3 or more runners and are settled in accordance with the Computer S.P. Straight Forecast returns. Where no Computer SP Straight Forecast return is given bets will be settled from the N.S.L. S.P. Forecast Chart. Forecasts are not accepted in TWO RUNNER races; where taken in error will be settled as a win single on the selection nominated to come first, any returns being subject to tax deduction.
In races where for any reason an S.P. return is not given, bets will be settled as non-runners. Forecast bets involving a non-runner will be void. Forecast Doubles and Trebles are accepted at Computer S.P. Straight Forecast returns. Forecast Accumulators are not accepted; where taken in error the bet affected will be settled as Forecast Trebles, the stake being apportioned accordingly. Where a client nominates only ONE SELECTION and instructs a Forecast bet it will be settled as a win single where a straight forecast is requested and an Each-Way single where a reverse forecast is requested. Should a client nominate two selections in different races and request a forecast the bet will be void.

Go To Top

10. Tricast

Tricast bets require the client to nominate the selections to finish 1st 2nd and 3rd in the correct order and are accepted for races where an Official Computer Tricast dividend return is declared (Horse Racing and Greyhound Racing), and settlement is made in accordance with the dividend returned. Selections should be named. However, race card numbers will be accepted provided the selection required is clearly defined. In the event of any ambiguity the Tricast will be made void, as will any Tricast in which a selection is repeated.
Tricasts are accepted for SINGLES ONLY. Should Tricast Doubles etc. be taken in error the total stakes will be invested equally as Tricast Singles on the selected races. Instructions for permutation Tricast must be specific; unless this is perfectly clear the bet will be settled as a straight Tricast to the full stake. For settlement purposes permutation Tricasts are a series of straight Tricasts. Un-named Favourites are not accepted in Tricast bets; where taken in error will be made void. Should selections for a Tricast include ONE non-runner the bet will stand as a Computer Straight Forecast on the remaining two selections in the order written. Where a Tricast contains TWO non-runners the stake is invested as a win single on the remaining selection. Should a Tricast bet be accepted for a race where no Computer Tricast dividend be returned the bet will stand as a Computer straight forecast on the selections nominated to finish First and Second with the Third selection being discounted. Should the selections include non-runners bets will stand as previously stated in this rule.

11. Conditional Bets - Any-to-Come

  1. In (A-T-C) Any-to-Come bets it must be clearly stated from which selection the A-T-C is to be taken. Cash in hand from one selection cannot go on to the same selection or any selection in the same race. A-T-C bets are settled in strict rotation until the stake plus winnings are exhausted. Where there is insufficient cash in hand to cover all selections the bet will be settled as far as the cash will allow. However, in Each-Way bets where the selection cannot be fully covered, the win part of the bet will be given precedence. Where there is insufficient stakes to cover a multiple bet, such as 'Yankee' etc, the bet will be settled as instructed with the returns proportioned down accordingly.
  2. Staking instructions for A-T-C bets must be specific. If the amount to be re-invested or the instruction 'All On' is not given, then the amount staked on the selection immediately preceding will be re-invested. Should the immediately preceding bet be an accumulative one then the maximum individual stake on that bet will be invested on the A-T-C selection.
  3. A-T-C bets are not accepted on Football or Ante-Post bets.

Go To Top

12. Conditional Bets - If Lose - If Win - Stop at Winner

  1. For settling purposes the words 'If Lose will read as 'If Lose' or non-runner and 'If Win' will be read as 'If Win' or non-runner.
  2. 'Stop at Winner' bets continue until one of the selections occupies 1st place or Dead Heats. 'Stop at a Winner' bets are not accepted for selections in the same race; where taken in error the selections will be settled as single bets, the 'Stop at a Winner' instruction being ignored.

Go To Top

13. Jockey's Mounts - Owners and Trainers Selected

Where a client backs Jockey's Mounts in a multiple bet (Doubles, Trebles, Yankee etc) the bet will be settled on the actual number of rides. In instances where the number of mounts cannot cover the full bet; e.g. a 'Yankee' on Pat Eddery's mounts, and the jockey has only one mount the bet is void; where he has two mounts settlement is made for one double at the original stake, the excess stake being returned; where he has three mounts settlement is made for three doubles and one treble to the original stake, the excess stake being returned. Where the Jockey has more mounts than the bet requirement and specific races are not stated, the bet will be settled on the Jockey's rides in race order; e.g. a double the first two rides, a treble the first three rides, a Yankee the first four rides etc. Where a Jockey rides at two meetings in one day and the meeting is not specified, the bet will be settled for the first meeting at which he rides after the bet is placed.
Where OWNERS and TRAINERS have more than one runner in a race the selected is the horse starting at the shortest price: if two or more start at the same price the stake will be equally divided. The 'Racing Post' programme on the day of the races must be taken as a guide in the case of Owners and Trainers selected and no subsequent alteration will be recognised. Where multiple bets are involved, and in cases where two meetings take place on the same day, the same ruling as applicable to Jockey's mounts will apply.

Go To Top

14. Incorrect Staking - Ambiguous Instructions

  1. Should a named selection be WRONGLY STATED the bet will stand provided that only one runner could possibly be Intended. However, where the selection combines the names of two runners, then the stake will be equally divided between the two runners. Where more than two runners are involved the selection will be made void.
  2. Should a bet be understaked it will be settled in proportion.
  3. Should a client nominate TOO FEW SELECTIONS for a multiple bet then a non-runner or non-runners are added as required to meet the bet instructions; e.g. a £1 Win Yankee with only three selections nominated, is settled as instructed with a non-runner being added.
  4. Where selections in the same race are nominated in a multiple bet the stake will be divided where the selections clash; e.g. three x £2 doubles £2 treble on selections A-B-C with A and B in the same race will be settled as £1 win A, £1 win B, £2 double AC, £2 double BC and the £2 treble becomes a £1 double AC and a £1 double BC.
  5. Where the same selection is nominated twice in a multiple bet, then the bet will be settled as instructed, with one of the duplicated selections becoming a non-runner.
  6. Where a client Indicates that only one accumulative bet is required then settlement will be for one accumulative bet e.g. Four selections written with the bet instruction £1 win treble with £1 staked is settled as a £1 fourfold.
  7. Should a client incorrectly time a selection that is not doubly engaged the bet will be settled on the race in which the selection actually runs.

Go To Top

15. Suffix

Where two horses which are only differentiated by the suffix of the country of origin run on the same day, wagers will be taken as for the horse without the suffix unless the suffix is stated by the client. If however, one of the two horses had run that day before the wager was accepted, the bet will be considered as being for the horse still to run.

Go To Top

16. Walk-Overs and Void Races

These count as races but horse involved is treated as a non-runner.

Go To Top

17. Postponements

Should a meeting be postponed then all Staring Price and Early Show Price bets will be void. Where races are put back the settling of all bets will always be ruled by the time advertised in the 'Racing Post'. Selections in postponed races involved in multiple bets will be treated as non-runners.

Go To Top

18. Re-run Races (Horse Racing)

Where a race is run twice the betting market on the first event will rule the settling. All horses that come 'Under Orders' in the first race but do not compete in the re-run race are considered losers. An exception to this rule would arise should the starter deem any horses not taking part in the re-run race to be non-runners, in this event the market formed on the re-run race will govern settlement.

Go To Top

19. Double Engagements

Where a selection is doubly engaged and it is timed by the client it will stand as a bet for the race timed; should the horse run in the other race it would be treated as a non-runner. Where the selection is untimed it will stand for the first race that the selection actually runs after the bet is placed. Where a doubly engaged horse is included in a multiple bet and runs in the same race as another selection in the multiple bet, the horse will automatically be timed for the race in which the entries do not clash.

Go To Top

20. Show Prices

  1. We accept bets in races of THREE or more runners for named selections and trap numbers at current 'Show Prices' as transmitted to our office by the official information service, and not from any other broadcast source. Where a 'Show Price' is taken on a selection it will apply to that selection in all Win and Each-Way bets throughout the slip, unless requested otherwise. EACH-WAY BETS are governed by our S.P. place betting terms and determined by the number of horses coming under starters orders' and not by the number of declared runners when the price was laid. Clients wishing to bet at 'Show Prices' must clearly stipulate this when placing the bet and ensure that the quoted price is repeated back. We do not lay bar prices; where taken in error settlement will be made at S.P. In the event of a WRONG PRICE being transmitted or given in error by a member of our staff then the bet will be settled at the correct price at the time the bet was struck or at S.P. whichever is the greater. Should a horse be WITHDRAWN whereby Tattersalls Rule 4 would apply, then no 'Show Price' can be laid after the time of withdrawal, unless the 'Market' has been re-formed.
  2. Same day EARLY PRICES are available in some horse and greyhound races, these will be displayed in our advertisements or given on request. Bets are accepted on a non-runner - no bet basis; therefore should a HORSE be WITHDRAWN not under orders, stakes on that selection will be returned with bets on other horses in the race subject to Tattersall Rule 4 deduction where applicable. Should a GREYHOUND be WITHDRAWN all bets on that selection, either by name or trap number will be void with bets on the remaining runners in the race being settled at S.P.

21. Racing Abroad

  1. In countries where there is no S.P. market in operation bets are accepted at PARI-MUTUEL (TOTE) returns for Win -Each-Way and Place Only. In Win and Each-Way bets, horses in the same ownership are generally coupled on the WIN pool only, the place part of Each-Way bets stand on the named selection and settled on the returned place dividend. PLACE ONLY bets are accepted for singles only; where doubles, trebles etc are taken in error, the bet will be settled as Place singles, the total stake being equally divided over the number of selections involved.
Place bets and the place part of Each-Way bets on American racing will be settled in accordance with the dividend returned on the '1-2-3 SHOW' pool.
  2. UN-NAMED FAVOURITES are not accepted; where taken in error will be made void.

Go To Top

22. Price Rigging - Repeated Bets

Where evidence of price rigging arises we reserve the right to withhold payment of returns pending investigation. Where evidence of a series of bets each containing the same selection(s) having been placed by or for the same individual is substantiated we reserve the right to limit the maximum odds payable to:-
6/1 for Win single bets
12/1 for Win doubles and Forecasts
33/1 for Win trebles, accumulators and Tricasts
the place part of Each-Way bets being restricted to one third of the Win limits.

23. Win - Each-Way Betting

Bets are accepted Win or Each-Way at S.P. or Show Prices. Bets at TOTE RETURNS are not accepted: where taken in error settlement is made at S.P.; should no S.P. return be made bets on that race will be void. Place Only bets are not accepted, and if taken in error will be made void.

Go To Top

24. Favourites and Trap Numbers

  1. Bets are accepted for First and Second Favourites only. Un-named Third Favourites are not accepted and where taken in error will be made void.
  2. Bets for un-named Favourites and Trap numbers should state the correct race time and meeting. However, should a meeting be omitted but by the collective races timed be applicable to only one particular meeting then the bet will stand for that meeting.
  3. Where a Track holds TWO MEETINGS on the SAME DAY unless clearly stated which meeting is intended the bet will stand for the first meeting to be run after bet acceptance.

Go To Top

25. BAGS. Meetings

The rules in this section apply to BAGS. meetings only which are covered by a full information service. Should a bet for a SINGLE or SINGLE FORECAST be accepted but is incorrectly timed it will stand for the next race to go off after bet acceptance: should a meeting be stated, then the bet will stand for the next race to go off at that meeting. This ruling also applies even if the race time stated is for a race previously resolved. Where a MEETING is stated but the RACE TIME given relates to a different BAGS, meeting then the bet is settled either for the next race to be run at the meeting stated or for the race corresponding to the given race time, whichever is the next to go off after bet acceptance. In MULTIPLE bets where the time and meeting stated do not correspond the race times stated will take precedence and the bet settled for the meeting applicable to the race times. Where a client uses TTC. (Through The Card) to time trap numbers but does NOT NOMINATE A MEETING, or NOMINATES A BAGS. MEETING due to take place on a DIFFERENT DAY, then if taken in time for a BAGS. MEETING the bet will be settled for that meeting. Where two morning BAGS. meetings take place and the bet is taken in time for both, the stake will be equally divided to cover both meetings. Where two afternoon BAGS. meetings take place the same ruling will apply. However, where a meeting is omitted but the races timed correspond with only one meeting then the bet will stand for that meeting. Where a SHOW PRICE is taken about a trap number and there is no doubt as to the race on which the price was being offered the bet will be settled for that race, irrespective of the RACE TIME stated.

Go To Top

26. Re-runs

Where a race is declared a NO RACE and is re-run all bets will stand on the greyhounds that take part in the re-run. However, single bets may be cancelled by mutual agreement. Show Prices laid on the void race will not be valid, the S.P. return on the re-run race will govern settlement. A re-run race stands in the order in which it was originally placed in the programme, irrespective of the time at which it was re-run. Where a race is declared void and not re-run ALL bets for that race are void, any reserve race or substitute race will not count.

Go To Top

27. Ante-Post Betting

Ante-Post bets are accepted on the basis of all-in run or not, all-in enter or not, unless otherwise stated. Ante-Post betting on horse racing events ceases at 10.00 a.m. on the day of the overnight declarations for the event. Bets struck after 10.00 a.m. on that day will be subject to Tattersalls Rule 4. When the same selection is backed to win two or more events in Ante-Post multiple bets special odds may be available. These special odds will supersede the accumulative odds calculated from individual event odds. Accumulative bets will be calculated on a win-to-win, place-to-place basis only. Single bets on a race subsequently abandoned, declared void, or where the conditions of the race are altered after placing the bet, will be declared void. If a horse is balloted out under Jockey Club Rule 125 it will be declared void. Where any part of an Ante-Post accumulative bet has been declared void then the remaining part(s) shall stand at the Ante-Post price(s) taken on the remaining selection(s). Ante-Post wagers are treated as part of a client's credit balance. Wagers may be pre-paid to keep clients within their specified credit limit.

Multiple bets are not accepted where the outcome of one part of the bet contributes to the outcome of another; where taken in error the stake will be equally divided where they clash, e.g. a £2 Double ENGLAND to win 3-0 and a named ENGLAND player to be the first goal scorer is settled as two £1 win singles. However, where the related parts of the bet are resolved at different times, the bet will be settled as instructed with the odds for the second or subsequent legs being determined at each individual stage, e.g. a £10 Double WHITE to win a Snooker semi-final at 4/5 and to win the tournament outright at 5/2 is settled as a £10 Double WHITE to win the semi-final at 4/5 with the odds for WHITE to win outright being those on offer after winning the semi-final. In the event of WHITE losing the semi-final, the bet is lost.
